The freshest, most locally grown food you can eat is what you grow yourself! In this class, students will learn to plan, plant and maintain a chemical-free vegetable garden. You’ll learn to design your beds, test for soil pH/nutrients and discover which plants thrive in our area. We’ll discuss irrigation, fertilization, garden structures, pest control and harvesting. Each student will get hands-on experience sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings and will take home starts for the home garden. Class fee includes potting soil, containers and seeds, as well as informational handouts. Taught by Anne Burkhardt, Environmental Educator & Sustainable Farmer and Gayle Larson, Landscape Designer & Certified Professional Horticulturalist. Class length 2 hours. Two classes are being offered. The first one takes place on Thursdays at 10 am , and the second is being given on Thursdays at 6:30 pm . Both classes begin on April 8 and go through May 13. The cost is $95. For more information, contact the Park District office at 206-842-2306 ext. 18 or register online at www.biparks.org
