On May 23, from 5 to 7pm, Soup Kitchen will open its doors in an empty storefront in downtown Bainbridge Island (look for us on Madrone Lane, across the street from the ice cream store). The purpose of this one-evening venture is simple: to provide a free meal, entertainment, and camaraderie to locals who have been kicked around by the recession. There will be bands on hand along with the Island’s Community Singers, and kids are more than welcome to join us. You can read more about the event at the Soup Kitchen blog
The food for Soup Kitchen—to the extent that we can pull it off—is being provided by local farms. The soup, bread, and drinks will be made by local chefs and home cooks in Bainbridge Island kitchens. People of all backgrounds and situations are invited, but we would especially welcome the local food community: this event will highlight the link between local food and our community well being, and show that great tasting, healthy meals can be produced at a low price.
If anyone has food or time that they would like to donate, we are grateful for contributions. Leave a message for Kim at 206 679 0680.
