Bainbridge Island's first community shellfish farm is a reality. The new Port Madison Community Shellfish Farm (PMCSF), planted by volunteers April 3rd in the tidelands in front of Bloedel Reserve, may be harvesting and selling its signature oysters, "Port Madison Petites," possibly as early as this fall. The Bloedel Reserve, has leased their tidelands to Puget Sound Restoration Fund (PSRF) for a small-scale, community- based venture that will make locally grown oysters and clams available to the community, create tasty incentives for keeping the water clean and help re-connect people to one of the Island's great resources.
With PSRF's help, more than 50 homeowners on the island have created oyster beds on private land and PSRF is hoping for more.
Homeowners with tideland access can get free "seed" oysters from 8-11 a.m. May 15 at the PSRF office, 590 Madison Ave. with advance reservations. The event is scheduled during a particularly low tide so participants can pick up the oysters and plant them the same day. A demonstration is at 10 a.m.

Port Madison Community Shellfish Farm
Community Supported Aquaculture (CSA) Membership Information
As a CSA member of the Port Madison Community Shellfish Farm, you can choose from the three different membership levels described below. We will be selling our very own “Port Madison Petites,” a perfect Pacific oyster on the half shell. All CSA members will have five oyster orders ready for their pick up at the Bainbridge Farmers’ Market (dates listed below). As a member you are invited to volunteer for one harvest per year. This means you will get to visit the farm, help us collect, clean and bag the shellfish and partake in all the fun! If you are unable to attend a harvest event, you may send someone in your place.
There are five shellfish harvests scheduled during the 2010 season. Please wear boots and weather appropriate clothing to the harvest events. The pick up site is at Hidden Cove Park, 8588 Hidden Cove Road. Directions to Hidden Cove Park: Take a right off Hwy 305 (travelling North) on Hidden Cove Rd. Continue 1.2 miles and you will see the driveway and a small sign for Hidden Cove Park on your left. Walk down to the dock to meet the harvest boat.
If you would like to become a CSA member, please detach and fill out the form below and send it back to Puget Sound Restoration Fund along with your membership fee. Memberships are available on a first come first serve basis, so don’t wait! For more information please e-mail the project manager, (
