The Bainbridge Winter Farmer’s Market
All of the ingredients for a locally-grown Thanksgiving will be available this Saturday at the Bainbridge Winter Farmers Market. Anne Weber of Farmhouse Organics posted on Facebook that in addition to a bumper crop of squash, potatoes, carrots, onions, shallots, cabbage, lettuce, kale, chard, peppers, and herbs, she would be bringing along the last of the fresh tomatoes picked from vines still producing in their hoophouse. This weekend's big chill wil certainly put an end to that, so get them while they last! Betsey Wittick of Laughing Crow Farm has saved her biggest sweet potatoes for this Saturday, and she'll probably also have some of her wonderful ground flint corn, perfect for cornbread stuffing, along with a great variety of potatoes for mashing, garlic and peppers. Persephone Farm will bring greens, leeks, potatoes, and lots of squash, includinh long pie pumpkins -- the best for pumpkin pie.
This is the first Saturday of the Bainbridge Winter Market, which will be open every Saturday through December 18, from 10 am to 3 pm at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church, at the corner of Winslow Way and Madison in downtown Bainbridge Island. Most of the food vendors will be outside in the parking lot.
