The Island's first "Local Food Roundtable" was held on October 6 at the Grange Hall. Approximately 40 people participated in a wide-ranging discussion of our regional food system: what we have now and what we need. Detailed notes from the meeting can be found here

Listed below are a few of the priorities for future action identified in the meeting:
  • Water - how can we maximize access to and use of this resource, and make regulations more supportive of farming?
  • Baseline study: We need to find out how much of what we're currently producing
  • Processing: We need a rentable commercial kitchen on the Island (and there is good news in this department)
  • Distribution: How can we strengthen the link between local producers and institutional and retail buyers?
  • Waste: Can we create a local composting facility on Bainbridge Island?
Future Local Food Rountables will be held at the Grange Hall on the first Thursday evening of each month from 7 - 9 pm (except December). The next session will be on November 3, the topic will be PRODUCTION.
