It's a glorious year for strawberries! Karen Selvar of Bainbridge Island Farms is opening her farm this week for U-pick. It's a great way to get an entire flat of sun-ripened berries for only $15 (that's less than 1/2 the regular price). You can take a ride to a local farm, enjoy the sunshine, and take home lots of luscious Island strawberries grown using organic methods for eating, jam-making, baking or freezing. The Farm (13610 Manzanita Road) will be open every day this week for U-pick from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Don't miss this opportunity -- the berries are ripe, beautiful and waiting for you!
If you would prefer to have someone else do the picking you can purchase Karen's strawberries at the Day Road Farm Stand every day starting at 9 am, at the Wednesday Ferry Farm Stand, and at the Bainbridge Saturday Farmers' Market. You can even have them delivered right to your door by Farm Courier! See Julie's recipe for a wonderfully easy jam that will let you taste these summer strawberries all year long.
